Go back in time and trek in one of the most preserved and ancient regions in the world – Upper Mustang.
Given up by Tibet to Nepal in the 1940’s and despite the passing of centuries, this ancient culture still remains. Having a trans-himalayan climate, it receives very little rain and is therefore a very dry barren environment; strange in the presence of some of the tallest, white capped peaks in the world.
This is a real travelling adventure; drive from Kathmandu through Nepal’s countryside to Pokhara, fly over the impressive Annapurnas to the tiny remote mountain airstrip of Jomson before a 3hr trek to Kagbeni at Upper Mustang’s border. Your journey back in time through a region that was only opened to tourists in 1992 begins here.
The trek to Lo-Manthang takes 5 days ascending slowly to a max altitude of 4010m. The wonderfully shaped terrain has been moulded by the wind and rain over centuries and generally follows the Kali Ghandaki river. This barren landscape has a real beauty to it, changing colours with the light. From Lo-Manthang, the Chinese border is not far to the north.
After a day’s rest exploring the local area, you head back to Jomson on a slightly different route. Having arrived back in Pokhara, relax in your well appointed 4* hotel (with a pool), just minutes from the centre of town. There are lots of adventure activities available including paragliding, microliting, mountain bikes and boats for hire on the Phewa Lake. Or just relax and enjoy the shops and restaurants.
Fly back to Kathmandu, an overnight stay before your final departure.

Upper Mustang... this was a 'bucket list' destination for me. Travel and Trek are very thorough and reliable and I would always use them again for a similar expedition; it was a wonderful experience.
Upper Mustang… thanks for an excellent trip, the guide and assistant were both full of enthusiasm, very attentive. Superb.
