Experience Mt Everest on this 8 day trek through the Sherpa heartland in amongst the biggest mountains on earth.
You will buzz with excitment as the small plane takes off from Kathmandu bound for the isolated mountain airpstrip of Lukla. It is one of the most exciting flights you’ll ever experience! You’ll then trek along the classic Everest trail, in amongst the climbers, through the classic villages, seing life as these rugged people really live.
This trek goes as far as Tengbouche (pictured above left) and lies at an altitude of 3900m. This is low enough not to cause any discomfort due to the altitude and yet high enough to see many of the world’s top 10 peaks that constantly surround you.
Before you get there, you will spend a few days in the Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar. A bustling community, from here you will expand your horizons by trekking out (and higher) to other places to assist acclimatisation. The scenery all around is so vast; filled with snow capped mountains for as far as the eye can see. By the time you move onwards to Tengbouche, you will be ready to enjoy the high altitude.
This is a fantastic trek for those not wishing to experience a full blown Everest Base Camp trek and the harsher, high altitude conditions that come with it. It is also suitable for the more adventurous children, I would suggest of around 12 years upwards unaided.

Day 3 – Domestic flight to Lukla – Trek to Monjo 2835m
An early start for your domestic flight to Lukla. Enjoy a late breakfast in Lukla whilst watching the flights come and go from this unique mountain airstrip. Begin trekking, Lukla (2840m) – Monjo (2835m).
Today is an easy 5 – 6hrs of trekking through the village of Phakding en route to Monjo where you will stay the night. BLD
Day 4 – Monjo – Namche Bazaar (3500m)
The entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park is just on the outskirts of Monjo (checkpoint for Permits) and once through that, it is a steady hour following the river before you cross the final of 7 suspension bridges and begin the 90 min steep ascent up to Namche. This is the first of the ‘big’ hills so take it steady. You will catch your first glimpse of Mt Everest in the distance from a rest point (weather permitting). Namche Bazaar is by far the biggest village in the region with shops and even internet cafes. Expect to arrive around lunchtime. 4 hrs. BLD
Day 5 – Namche Bazaar (3500m) (acclimatisation)
Your Guide will take you out on a trek to a variety of places in the local region primarily to gain some additional altitude and assist your body in its acclimatisation process (trek high, sleep low) and to see more of the stunning surroundings. The Everest View Hotel high on the ridge is a favorite; great view of Everest. BLD
Day 6 – Namche Bazaar (3500m) (acclimatisation)
Another acclimatisation day out to the village of Thame on the old Tibetan trading route. This may change depending on conditions and your Guide. It is very flexible and varied. BLD
Day 7 – Namche Bazaar – Tengbouche (3900m)
A relatively easy trek out of Namche, contouring around the hillside with some superb views. There are a number of favoured rest stops either before or at the bottom of the long descent. The ascent up to Tengbouche takes about 90 mins. Famed for its hilltop Monastery (and perhaps the ‘German Bakery!), this village has one of the best views of Everest. The Monastery is certainly well worth a visit.
Depending on circumstances, you may trek for another 20 mins down to Debouche for the overnight stay. 5 – 6hrs, BLD
Day 8 – Tengbouche – Namche Bazaar
After a final early morning look at the summit of Everest, it is time to turn around and head back to Namche. Tackle the big valley first before the contour route back into Namche. 5 – 6 hrs. BLD
Day 9 – Namche Bazaar – Pfadking
The first few hours will be easy out of Namche back down the long hill to the high suspension bridge. The group will stop at some point prior to moving on to your overnight stop at Phakding. It may appear a short day but this also acts as a spare day should you need it. 4 – 5 hrs. BLD
Day 10 – Pfadking – Lukla
This final section is approx 3 hrs and you will be elated to reach your final destination; well done. Plenty of time in the afternoon to explore Lukla and watch the aircraft come and go from this unique airport. 3 hrs, BLD
Day 11 – Lukla – Kathmandu
An early start to have breakfast and be ready for your flight back down to Kathmandu. You should reach your hotel by midday; plenty of time to enjoy the facilities that Thamel has to offer. You can continue with any sightseeing, have a post trek massage (very inexpensive in Nepal), shop ‘till you drop or simply relax in one of the many cafes, restaurants and bars soaking up the atmosphere.
