A great 7-day lodged trek in spectacular mountain scenery and summit Poon Hill.
A fabulous Himalayan Adventure holiday, show casing Nepal with time in Kathmandu, a spectacular Annapurna trek and some down time in the picturesque lake side town of Pokhara.
A perfect 2 week trip for anyone visiting this country for the first time. Suitable for just about any age group.
Having spent 2 nights in Kathmandu, we drive to the Annapurnas and get trekking. Sleeping in lodges (called tea houses) every night and trekking for about 6 hours per day, the route meanders its way through rural villages, across deep river gorges amidst spectacular world class mountain scenery and yet remains low enough not be worried about altitude sickness. After 5 days you reach the highest village; Ghorepani.
From here, the jewel in the crown is experiencing the sunrise over the Annapurnas from Poon Hill (3200m). This wonderful photographic hotspot sits in between two of the biggest mountain ranges in the world (Annapurna and Dhaulagiri) as well as overlooking the deepest river gorge in the world (Kali Ghandaki).
At the end of the trek, it takes just 90 mins to transfer to Pokhara. For 2 days it’s time to relax in your well appointed 4* hotel (with a pool), just minutes away from the centre of town. There are lots of adventure activities available including paragliding, microliting, the hire of mountain bikes and boats for hire on the Phewa Lake. Or you can simply relax and enjoy the shops and restaurants.

Day 4 – Drive to Pokhara and then Hemja, trek to Astam
An early start to get you to Pokhara (approx 6 hrs drive with stops) and then onto the start of the trek in a reasonable time. It’s an easy introductory day (2 – 3 hrs of trekking) to the beautiful village of Astam. The views of the mountain tops from here are superb on a clear day. BD
Day 5 – Trek Astam – Pitam Deurali (2100m)
Meander through the foothills with a steady climb first to Damphus, then Pothana and finally to your night’s rest stop. The tiny hamlet sits in a high spot; more great views. A day of generally ascending. 5hrs, BLD
Day 6 – Trek Pitam Deurali – Ghandruk (1940m)
A big descent to begin with and once clear of the forest, you catch your first sight of the Modi Khola river. It is the very deep valley that eventually leads up to Annapurna Base Camp. You will pass through many villages as you contour the hillside and end up at Landruk for lunch. To reach the final destination of Ghandruk (it looks touching distance!), you have to cross the deep valley; it takes about 3hrs. Total time 6 – 7 hrs, BLD
Day 7 – Trek Ghandruk – Tadapani (2630m)
A lovely (and short’ish) day up through the rhododendron forest. It is a climb for most of the day but a gentle one. Watch out for the colonies of monkeys as you go through the forest. Tadapani is a lovely village with a small traditional Tibetan market full of trinkets. 4 hrs, BLD
Day 8 – Trek Tadapani – Ghorepani (2900m)
You continue to remain in the forest for virtually the entire day. After an inital hour of clearing a gully, it is a slow ascent until you reach a small collection of tea houses where you’ll likley have a break. Shortly after, you will ascend onto a ridge where you will eventually break free of the forest and see the blue tops of the houses in Ghorepani below you. You will also be able to see Poon Hill. A final 40 min descent takes you to the village. 5hrs, BLD
Day 9 – Trek Ghorepani – POON HILL (3200m) – Tikhedhunga
A day of two halves.
It’s a pre-dawn start to get you up to Poon Hill (3200m) for the sunrise. It is a fabulous photographic opportunity as both the Annapurna and Dhaulagari ranges are in full view. As you look across at Dhaulagari, the valley in between is the deepest river gorge in the world (over 4 miles deep). The sun will rise directly over the Annapurnas.
After you have returned to Ghorepani for breakfast, you will begin the glorious descent towards Tikhedhunga. It’s an easy trek today but a long one when you consider Poon Hill. From Ghorepani 5-6 hrs, BLD
Day 10 – Trek Tikhedhunga – Naya Pul – Road to Pokhara
A very easy few final hours of trekking down to Naya Pul, where the transport will be waiting to transfer you to Pokhara (transfer time is about 90 mins). Time to grab a shower in our 4* hotel, throw off those trekking clothes and relax by the pool! The centre of town is just a few minutes away (literally) so you can stroll and eat/drink at leisure within easy walking distance of your home. B
Day 11 – Pokhara
Free day in Pokhara to relax and recover. Pokhara is a lovely relaxed town, located on the banks of Lake Phewa. The opportunities are numerous from the adventurous paragliders and microlites, to a slow boat on the lake to strolling along the shops. B
Day 12 – Pokhara – Kathmandu
After early breakfast, domestic flight transfer to Kathmandu. The remainder of the day is free. B
Day 13 – Kathmandu – Depart Nepal, B
