Morocco – Trekking in the High Atlas and the Sahara
This page will provide you with a brief overview of the trekking options in Morocco.

Morocco is certainly an under-rated trekking destination in our view with probably the most diverse variety of trekking routes within easy reach of the UK (under 4hrs flying time to Marrakesh). Click here to look at flight options.
Summer routes, winter routes and the vast sands of the Sahara desert can all be found within Morocco’s borders allowing trekking all year round.

Travel and Trek offers the following treks:
Classic Toubkal Trek - this popular one week, challenging trip culminates in summitting the highest point in North Africa - Mt Toubkal (4167m). Notwithstanding the ascent to the summit, the scenery through the High Atlas mountains, the Berber villages and general countryside is wonderful; colours changing as you cross the Passes from lush green to stark brown and red rock.
Short Toubkal – this 5 day (Uk - UK) version gets you to the summit of Toubkal and back again in 3 days (from Marrakesh). Good for those with no time to do the longer version.
Winter Toubkal – the same as the one week summer version but in winter conditions.
Dades – the warm and fertile Dades valley lies to the south of the High Atlas and faces the Sahara Desert affording trekking throughout the year. It includes a drive over the High Atlas mountains and an overnight stay in Ouarzazate prior to trekking. An excellent lower level trek for those who do not want to venture higher towards Toubkal. It is also less trekked.
Dades - Mgoun Traverse – after a drive over the High Atlas and an overnight stay in Ouarzazate, this trek starts in the Dades valley and treks north across Mgoun (4070m, the 2nd highest point in North Africa) ending up on the northern side of the High Atlas mountains. An excellent point to point trek; one of the best in this series.
Sahara Trek - a very different environment to the mountains, this Sahara trek takes you deep into the sands of the largest desert in the world. Although far less taxing than a mountain walk, there is still some distance to cover across a variety of sand based underfoot conditions including some pretty big dunes! You will have a camel support team. The feeling of isolation, the lack of ambient light and sound at night is quite something. The day and a half drive over the High Atlas and down through the Draa valley is very scenic. For trekkers who want something a little different; try this.
Tailor Made Morocco – if you are on a limited time scale or want something a little off the beaten trail (not that these trekking routes are crowded!), provide us with a brief and we can design an itinerary for you.
All of these treks are camping treks so all of your kit will be transported on mules or camels (or porters if required during winter); all you need to carry is your daysack containing items such as your camera, water, waterproofs, etc… Should you decide to book, you will be provided with a comprehensive set of trekking notes and a kit list to help prepare you for the trek.
