There are no roads, no villages, no people, no ambient light at night, just total silence and a sea of sand. At night, you can even see the satellites zooming across the sky as you lay out in the open. A wonderful and unique experience trekking through the Sahara Desert supported by an experienced team with camels.

This trip combines two nights in the the mystical and ancient walled city of Marrakesh as well as two more nights in Ourazazate en route to and from the Desert. The scenic drive down to the Sahara is one of some quality in itself.

On arrival in Marrakesh, you will be transferred to your hotel to savour the delights of this ancient city. After a leisurely brekfast the following morning you will drive straight over the High Atlas mountains and into the southern Moroccan town of Ouarzazate. Known as the Gateway to the Desert, you will stay here in a delightful and typically Maroc hotel for the night before continuing your scenic journey south through the Draa valley.

Once you reach the town of M'Hamid you will literally have hit the end of the road; the desert starts here. You will join your support crew, complete with camels carrying your luggage and support equipment and begin trekking. With civilization behind you will slowly disappear as you trek deeper into the sand. Some of the dunes are massive! The sand can be very soft or quite hard packed so the conditions do vary. You can even walk barefoot for miles in this stuff!

Trekking with your Berber Guide from camp to camp, you will wonder how on earth he knows where he is going; there are very few if any landmarks from which to navigate! The heat in the winter months is not quite enough to have you diving for the nearest oasis but it will certainly be over 25 degrees. You will see and climb the big sand dunes, notably 'Eric', a big soft sand dune that can be seen for miles around and it takes some climbing! All of your meals are prepared by a skilled camp chef and there's no shortage of food. They even bake bread in dug sandpits as the trek progresses!

The desert environment is a wonderful place to sit and ponder; it is a wonderful place to trek and the sunsets are very special.
