Training Weekends

Come and join me for a weekend of social hill walking

The next weekend.....

Lake District, 28 - 30 Nov 08

Ambleside

Join me for a bit of early winter walking based out of the trekking town of Ambleside!

It will take the usual format of 1 1/2 days of walking with plenty of time to use Ambleside's excellent facilities and an opportunity to scoure through the many high quality outdoor shops for those bargains or a specific item of kit. If you can't get it in Ambleside......

The accommodation options open to you, and you should deal with these directly, are:

The Grasmere Youth Hostel (Butharlyp How is the main one) is excellent and just a few mins walk from the centre of town. You can stay there on a room only basis for £13.95 pppn (add £3 pppn if you are NOT a member of the YHA). Full details of the hostels can be found using this link Grasmere YHA

In case you are wondering, the Ambleside YH is closed for refurbishment during this period.

In Nov, there should be plenty of B&B and hotel options. Further details on these to follow.

The term 'training weekend' merely refers to a social weekend of hill walking in a variety of locations that those attending can use depending on their own circumstances. It is primarily aimed at those that have either booked or thinking about embarking on a trek to gauge how their personal fitness is. Having been on a weekend, many go away with the relief and confidence that they aren't going to die up the first hill in Nepal or similar far flung trekking destination! Many others come back having been on a trek simply because they enjoy the walking with the whole thing being organised for them. Whatever your reason for coming, you will be made most welcome.

As most areas I use are in the country's hilly areas, Youth Hostels are often used as bases as they are inexpensive, comfortable, extremely well placed for walking areas and they can cater for the numbers that usually attend.  You do not have to be a member to stay anymore (£3 supplement per night if you are not).  You are free of course to make your own arrangements and I often supply a list of suitable accommodation such as B&B's.

The fee for the weekend is £30 per person (unless stated) + food and lodgings.
