Wild, rugged, scenery to die for, this is a true wilderness trek.....just do it.
Arriving in Islamabad, just two years after the devastating earthquake, you may expect to see a demolished city. You will be wrong and as a westerner, you will be welcomed with open arms as this resilient country fights hard to rebuild its reputation as a tourist destination. As much as you might wish to enjoy this warm hospitality, you must leave for the tranquility and excitment of the mountains.
Despite what you may see on the news about Pakistan, it is a very safe place to trek. We would not be operating there if it were not. This fantastic 14 day trek follows the 62km Baltoro Glacier towards the K2 Base Camp and with it the sight of 7 of the world's 25 highest Peaks. It is a photographers dream of mountain scenery; glaciers and mind blowing rock towers allowing the sunlight to play its tricks.
At 8611m, K2 is the world's 2nd highest Peak and if you are able, there is the chance to get to its Base Camp at just over 5000m.
This is a fairly demanding but extremely rewarding trek deep into the mountain region with little or no infrastructure. It is a camping trek mainly in glacial terrain and crossing some rivers (what fun that is!); the terrain can be very rugged. You will need a good sleeping bag even though this is summer months; in this area it can get very cold at night and don't forget, you are on a glacier!
If you have never been to Pakistan, you should do so. The Pakistani people are courteous, almost overwhelmingly friendly and the culture just waiting to be experienced.
The dates of this trek reflect the harsh conditions in these mountains outside of the summer months.
