Everest Base Camp is one of the great treks of the world. With Mt Everest and many other of the worlds highest mountains on the end of it, it has to be. Late Spring/early summer is climbing season and without doubt is when you will see the Base Camp at its busiest. There are likely to be over 200 - 300 tents there all filled with climbers and support staff and the best way to view them all is from Kala Patthar, a peak just to the west of the Base Camp.

This has to be one of life's 'must do's' before you die!

There's far more to this trip than just a trek: the villages, the lukla flight, the Sherpas, the Tengbouche monastery, the Khumbu glacier and of course....Everest.

After 36 hrs in the fantastic buzzing hustle and bustle of Kathmandu we experience the unforgettable ~35 min flight into the mountain airstrip of Lukla and go straight into a half day trek.

Acclimatisation is important and your first stepping stone is at the Sherpa captial of Namche Bazaar, just 2 days into the trek. From there as the trek progresses so too does the altitude with the scenery to match. The majestic Ama Dablam soon comes into view and we acclimatise right underneath it in the village of Pherische or Dingbouche.

Just 2/3 days before you reach the Base Camp, you will meet the awesome Khumbu glacier as you climb up the front of it. From there onwards you will trek alongside it and have plenty of opportunity to climb the sides and have a good look at this amazing mass of moving ice (you will probably hear it crack a few times, a sure sign its moving!).

Gorak Shep is the final stop prior to trekking to the Base Camp, indeed it also from here that you will ascend (optional) the highest point on this trek - Kala Patthar (5500m). Kala Patthar affords the best (and fantastic) views of the busy Base Camp (far more active in spring than autumn).

Whilst the 8/9 day trek to the Base Camp is no doubt a physical challenge for some, mainly due to the altitude, taken at the correct pace and responsibly (acclimatisation days are built in) this trek is within reach of most averagely fit people. The rewards are stunning with clear views of the highest peak in the world awaiting you. The descent is much quicker of course (but not all downhill!) as is the flight out of the Lukla airstrip!  A few more days to soak up Kathmandu before heading back to London.

Everest Base Camp & Island Peak

Absolutely brilliant! Let's face facts; get anywhere near Island Peak or see the photos and you just want to climb it. Especially knowing that it is not a technical climb; you need no previous climbing skills at all. At 6189m, it is just over the magic 20,000' barrier too. Under normal circumstances, EBC and Island Peak are both excellent treks in their own right but in 20 days (just 1 more than a stand alone EBC trek), you can do both. How? Well by trekking to EBC first, the acclimatisation is done there so by the time you get into the Chukkung valley you are ready to summit.

This particular trip is a great opportunity to experience both Base Camps as well as summit a 6000m+ peak.

This trip is effectively an Island Peak trip with EBC thrown in for good measure! For the inclusions and exclusions of this trip, please click here which will take you to the Trekking Peaks webpage.

International flights.  Whilst I do not include international flights in my prices, through experience I will suggest a specific flight and airline between London and Kathmandu to suit your trip. I can source flights if required. It also gives you the flexibility to fly in and out of Kathmandu from other cities.

Food. Many companies include food in their trek prices (I do not), which is understandable when on a tented trek, there is no option. On a T House trek there is an option. If you have a pre-paid food trip then you must eat what they provide, when they provide it and how much they provide. If you don't like it - tough! Don't get me wrong, the food will be of an excellent standard, there will be plenty of it but it does not give you any flexibility. In T Houses, the menus on offer are more varied than you would imagine and it is inexpensive. My policy is simply to allow you to eat what you want, when you want and how much you want. It allows greater flexibility particularly if you are not feeling too well or you need more of it to boost your energy levels!
